According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “In 2010, 2.3 million nonfatal fall injuries among older adults were treated in emergency departments and more than 662,000 of these patients were hospitalized...Twenty to thirty percent of people who fall suffer moderate to severe injuries such as lacerations, hip fractures, or head traumas.
“Vestibular Disorders” are conditions that effect a person’s balance and/or create feelings of disorientation. Since balance is controlled by the brain, inner ear, and visual input, problems with any combination of these can result in vestibular difficulty. (The term “vestibular” refers to a person’s perception of their body’s position or movement.)
