More and more healthcare professionals are using the bellicon® trampoline in their daily work. Marie-Hélène Cornec, a physiotherapist in the Paris region, explains to us how the bellicon® has found its place in her practice over the past several months.
bellicon®: Why do you use the bellicon® with your patients?
M.-H. Cornec: As a physiotherapist working with the Mézières method and muscle chains, I’m primarily looking for a holistic approach to my work.
In a professional setting, the bellicon® trampoline helps me a great deal to prepare and warm up the body at the start of a session, or to reconnect with rhythm and/or relaxation at the end. I can also build an entire session around the trampoline, depending on the treatment – the possibilities for using it are really very broad. This creativity also often comes through personal work on myself, which allows me to make very good use of this tool, which is also of high quality.
I’ve always looked for that “trampoline effect” in bodywork, and I bought a spring-based model a long time ago, but I only used it occasionally. The bellicon® allowed me to rediscover this interesting work and develop it further.
Have you developed set protocols for using the trampoline?
I haven’t really developed a fixed “protocol”, but there are basic principles to convey to every person:
- awareness of how the feet make contact with the mat
- managing the center of gravity during weight transfer, balance conditions…
- releasing joint blockages
- core stabilization, etc.
How do you actually use the trampoline?
What’s extraordinary is that literally anyone can find a use for the bellicon®, whether for prevention or pure rehabilitation. Its playful side, made reassuring by its softness, is so appealing that skeptics and the fearful don’t stay that way for long!
With older people, for example, gentle, gradually progressive work rekindles the desire to move again, to rediscover bodywork as a worthwhile reconquest, even as a source of well-being or unexpected pleasure.
What do your patients think of the bellicon®?
This trampoline work surprises and delights many patients, some of whom have gone on to buy one themselves.
This purchase is a real budget item, but it’s a good idea to consider it within a family setting, for example as a shared gift. It can complement a stationary bike or exercise mat at home, for genuine everyday physical upkeep. The folding-leg version is ideal for discreet storage.
